Phoenix is a great place to have a pool since you are able to enjoy it nearly all year round. Because of our mild climate and exposure to the sun, we recommend the following tips for keeping your pool in the best shape.
Phoenix Pool Cleaning Tip 1
Keep the area around your pool clean and free of debris. The nature of the weather in Phoenix and Arizona can sometimes be harsh. Wind, rain and/or monsoons can collect a lot of dust and debris that will sometimes make it into your pool. Making sure your pool area is clean will reduce the amount of debris in your swimming pool.
Phoenix Pool Cleaning Tip 2
If you already have debris in your swimming pool, try to remove it before it sinks to the bottom. Sometimes large particles can get caught in your filter and clog it up. Preventative maintenance can sometimes be your best friend!
Phoenix Pool Cleaning Tip 3
Skimming your pool with a net is also a great habit to get into. This will clean up additional debris and particles from your pool. Make sure, however, that you dump the particles from your skimmer net into a bag or trash receptacle. Don’t throw the content into you yard! The leaves, grass and other items will eventually find their way back into your swimming pool.
Phoenix Pool Cleaning Tip 4
Check your pool filter on a regular basis. We recommend checking it on a weekly or bi-monthly basis to make sure it is clean and free of debris. If your strainer is full or clogged, your filter pressure will be low causing it to do a poor job. A great indicator is your pool filter pressure. If the pressure seems high, check your filter and your strainer!
Phoenix Pool Cleaning Tip 5
Vacuum your pool and spa frequently to keep it clean. Only use a designated swimming pool vacuum to clean your pool! This is a great way to combat the dust and sand that blows around the Phoenix area! Start with the higher levels of your swimming pool, like the steps and walls. This will save you from having to vacuum the bottom again if any debris falls from the top of pool. Take your time and make sure your vacuum motion is smooth and slow. You don’t want to disturb any debris or particles that might float up and cause the vacuum to miss them. Be sure to check your basket and make sure that it does not overflow. If you pool vacuum starts to lose power, your basket is probably full.
Phoenix Pool Cleaning Tip 6
Be sure to maintain a proper water level in your pool. The water should be somewhere between touching the bottom of your tile to the middle of the tile. During monsoon season in Phoenix, you may have to lower your water level so that it does not overflow. In the summer months, Phoenix can experience very hot days where your pool water can evaporate quickly. You may need to adjust the water level to compensate for any evaporation you may experience.
Phoenix Pool Cleaning Tip 7
Maintaining your pool surface area by spot-checking is also something we recommend. If you see dirt, dust or sand accumulating on the walls or steps of your pool, be sure to brush it away. This will prevent these particles from building up and/or clogging your pool filter. You can also add a little tile soap to your pool and this will move the particles away from the center and onto the surface, making it easy to clean and remove. Pool brushes are specifically designed for your swimming pool and should not scratch away the surface. After you’ve finished spot cleaning, be sure to vacuum and remove all the particles from your pool.
